The violin has four strings. When you play the strings without putting any finger, you’ll hear these notes in order from high to low: E, A, D, and G. This tuning is standard for classical violins! 🎻

How to tune your violin?

The easiest way to get it right is with a tuning device or app to get the correct pitch. It has a mic that tells you if you need to go higher or lower, making tuning super simple! Just go string by string. You can adjust the pitch using the fine tuners on the tailpiece or the pegs from the scroll.

If the string is too low, use the tuning peg to tighten it slightly. ⬆️ Turn the peg away from you to raise the pitch. If it’s too high, loosen the peg by turning it toward you. ⬇️ Be gentle with the pegs, small adjustments can make a big difference!

For finer adjustments, especially with the E string, use the fine tuners placed on the tailpiece. These allow for more precise tuning without risking a broken string. Remember, tuning your violin is something you should do every time before you practice or play! ✨

How to play the open strings? 🎻

The E string:

Lower your arm, and keep it light. The E string is the most pretentious one, it's hard to get a good sound even for pros, so if you are struggling in the beginning, don't worry! Even a little too much pressure can make it sound scratchy. 😵‍💫 Also, try to keep the bow moving fast enough, since going too slow can cause the E string to scratch as well.

The A string:

This string also needs little pressure and a neutral position of the arm.

The D string:

This one needs a bit of highering the elbow, and start adding some weight, but just the natural one from your arm. Just relax your arm! 🧘

The G string:

To get the best sound from this string, let your arm rest on the bow because your arm weight is the perfect factor that helps to produce the vibrations! 😎
